CAUGHT ON TAPE: Henrico teacher's aide accused of cursing, assau - NBC12 - Richmond, VA News

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -A Henrico father sent his daughter to Pemberton Elementary School with a recording device. He claims he now has audio of the 8-year-old being verbally and physically abused by a teacher's aide. We can confirm the school system is now taking action.

"Please," screamed little 8-year-old Presley, on a tape recording provided to NBC12 by her father.

Those screams allegedly came from inside Pemberton Elementary School. Presley's father, Britton Ellis, sent Presley to school with a small recorder.

"Put your hands down," screamed an adult to Presley. "Do you want to go to class? Do you?"

"Ow!" cried Presley.

Ellis claims the audio is proof that Presley was verbally and physically abused by a teacher's aide.

"She has expressed to us that she is afraid to go back to school," said Ellis.

Ellis says he placed the recorder on Presley's book-bag.

"Push her," an adult says on the tape. "Send her on over there."

"No," cries Presley.

"I'm going to hit your a** back. You better put your hand down," says the adult.

"Ow!" cried Presley.

That adult appears to laugh while Presley screams. She even seems to brag to other adults.

"I've been running from her," said the adult. "I just run around the room so she can't catch me."

Ellis says the entire ordeal has been heartbreaking.

"To have her endure this is just truly heartbreaking as a father," said Ellis.

School leaders call the tapes new information. We're told a teacher's aide is now on paid administrative leave.

"The school division has investigated his concerns thoroughly and seriously every step of the way," said school spokesperson Andy Jenks. "It doesn't matter how the recording was obtained or who is saying what to whom. To hear that sort of language apparently addressed to a student....no. That is unprofessional and not acceptable."

Dad is disappointed it took a small recorder to uncover a major safety concern.

"We trust our child to go to school and to be in a safe environment, and then to hear that, it was just devastating to hear," said Ellis.

Presley is doing okay, but her parents are afraid to take her back to school. Ellis says he just got a letter in the mail saying he could face jail time if he does not bring Presley back for class. Stay with NBC12 for updates.
