I Have A Dream

I want to take a page from Dr. King and put my spin on it. I hope that it doesn't offend anyone. I have a dream that one day ALL children will receive the free and appropriate education that they are entitled to. I have a dream that children of color, living in the inner cities, will be provided the same opportunities and education that white kids in affluent suburbs do. I have a dream that EVERY child will be afforded the opportunity to attend college and pursue their dreams regardless of their ability to pay for college. I have a dream that students with disabilities will receive the services and education that they are federally guaranteed so that they can become productive citizens. I have a dream that school districts will one day do what is right, ethical, moral, and mandated without parent's having to spend their last dime on an attorney and court costs. I have a dream that one day no parent will have to call me or message me because their child is being em

Superintendent – Lee's Summit R7 Schools

Superintendent – Lee's Summit R7 Schools The problem with this report is that the Superintendent didn't really meet with the community.  He met with the groups that have run this town and this district for far too long.  They don't represent the community.  He needs to meet with the people that are not related to any of these groups.  The people who voices are never heard.  The people that are going to tell the truth and not just what he and the city want to hear.

How Lee's Summit and the State of Missouri Stole My Son's Education

I was talking to a friend today and some things came to mind.  Many people want to know why I fight with the school district and the State.  I have earned quite a reputation as a crazy mom.  There are many people that are happy with the education that their children are getting and wonder why I am not.  Well, let me explain it to you. I have known that my son has autism since he was three years old.  I lived in a very small town in Illinois with the population of 1,200.  I had twin daughters that were 5 years old and were in all day kindergarten.  The town was having testing for children 3-5 years of age.  I thought it was to see where they were academically and what they needed to work on prior to starting kindergarten.  My son was three years old and the only child that I had home during the day.  I signed him up for the testing and took him up to the school.  I wasn’t sure if he would go through it because he was a screamer.  I don’t mean that he screamed every once in awhile.  I
