Schools Recognized as Model Professional Learning Communities

Eleven schools across the state have been recognized by state education officials for outstanding performance in implementation of collaborative strategies to promote student learning.

Recipients of the 2011-12 Missouri Professional Learning Communities Exemplary Schools Awards are:

Ste. Genevieve Elementary School
Ste. Genevieve Bloomsdale Elementary
Ste. Genevieve Middle School
Ste. Genevieve High School
West Lane Elementary, Jackson
Moberly Middle School
Eugene Field Elementary, Maryville
Maryville Middle School
Maryville High School
Kearney Middle School
Robinson Intermediate School, Aurora

The schools were recognized and showcased by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education at a recent professional development conference attended by more than 1,400 educators across the state.

Two districts – Ste. Genevieve R-II and Maryville R-II – also were recognized for being exemplary. Both districts have shown significant gains in student achievement in all buildings.

“The recognition of the good work occurring in these school buildings and districts affirms that student achievement is greatly enhanced in highly collaborative environments with a focus on student success,” said Commissioner of Education Chris L. Nicastro.

The Missouri Professional Learning Communities Project began during the 2003-04 school year to promote school cultures focused on learning with collaborative teams effectively using data to increase student achievement.
