How much good will the survey do?  Too many of the members are former teachers or administrators for the school district.

Kim Fritchie

Kim Fritchie is currently on the board of Lee’s Summit CARES. She has been active in the Lee’s Summit CARES organization since 1993, serving as president, vice president, and secretary, as well as serving on the education, finance, and public relations committees. She is a retired school administrator who served the Lee’s Summit School District for 30 years. As a member of the Lee’s Summit community since 1976, she is deeply committed to the Lee’s Summit community and programs that will help maintain a positive and healthy quality of life for its citizens. She is an active member of the Lee’s Summit Beautification Commission, the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan Principal’s Association, the Lee's Summit Education Foundation Alumni Committee, and the Lee's Summit High School Hall of Fame Committee.

Julie Doane

Julie Doane works with her husband as a Freight/Small Package Consultant for The Logistics Store. The Logistics Store was honored with the 2013 Fastest Growing Business in the Metro Area. Julie is also a Rodan + Fields Dermatology Consultant. As a lifelong resident of Lee's Summit, Julie has become involved with many organizations and serves on the, Enriching Lives through Music Foundation Board, Lee's Summit CARES Board, Lee’s Summit Medical Advisory Board Member, and a past Board of Director with the Lee's Summit Chamber, President of the Lee's Summit West Booster Club, Member of the Our Lady of the Presentation School Board. Julie was honored by the Chamber with the "Volunteer of the Year Award" in 2007. Julie is also a member of the Lee’s Summit Optimist Club. Julie has served on many community committees such as R-7 Boundary Team, Logo Design Team, Building our Future Campaign, Citizens Advisory Committee, Community of Character Business Sector, along with LS Chamber's Ambassadors, Education, Strategic Planning, and Oktoberfest Committees. Julie has been involved with Lee’s Summit’s Got Talent and The LS CARES Character Conference Steering Committee. Julie was the LS West Softball Booster Representative and coached volleyball in the Parochial league for numerous years. Julie graduated from Lee's Summit High School and the University of Central Missouri. While at UCM she was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma and now serves as an Advisor to her sorority. Julie has been married to her husband Eric for over 23 years and they have two daughters, Erica and Abigail, who are both attending UCM. Julie feels that she should give as much back to this community, as she has received so much by living here.

Ron Baker


Ron Baker was elected to the Board of Education in April 2009. He retired in 2001 after working for 36 years in the R-7 School District. During his career, he taught science at the high-school and middle-school levels, served as the district's first secondary science department chairperson and the first R-7 energy manager.
Mr. Baker was named Teacher of the Year at the Lee's Summit Junior High School and served on the Executive Board of the Science Teachers of Missouri. He earned his bachelor's degree in education from the University of Central Missouri, his master's degree in biology from UCM and has completed 45 post-graduate hours.
A Lee's Summit resident, Mr. Baker is an active member of Lee's Summit Baptist Temple and belongs to the Lee's Summit Rotary Club. His two sons attended R-7 schools from kindergarten through 12th grade, both graduating from Lee's Summit High School. He has one grandson who attends R-7 schools.
Mr. Baker is married to Serece Baker, a retired R-7 science teacher. They enjoy traveling, reading, golf and lake activities as well as live theatre.

Marsha Palmer-Thelwell

Marsha Palmer-Thelwell is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 20 years of experience in mental health, social services, adoption and early childhood education.  She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Oklahoma, where she originally hails from.  Currently she is the program manager for ReDiscover Mental Health, School & Community Services.  She supervises therapists, case managers and substance abuse prevention specialists that provide services to students in the Lee’s Summit school district as well as four other districts & Hilltop Residential Treatment Center. Marsha has extensive experience working with a wide spectrum of children, adults and families in a variety of settings.  She has developed and implemented programs locally and also during the time she lived in California.  She has served on several community-based committees, advisory councils and boards throughout the Kansas City area.
Marsha and her husband, Dwight Thelwell have been Lee’s Summit residents since 2001. 

Kimberly Hollins

Kimberly Hollins is a native of Kansas City and a graduate of Carver Christian Day School.  She is currently an Assistant Principal at Pleasant Lea Middle School in the Lee’s Summit School District where she has been an educator for 10 years. Past educational experience includes teaching Special Education and GED classes.  She has earned master’s degrees in Special Education and Educational Administration.  She also serves on the Lee’s Summit Youth Court Board.   
She is married to Larry.  In her spare time, she enjoys watching reality cooking shows, and laughing with family and friends. 
Kimberly’s philosophy, “Life is not a race but a journey, so live for today and enjoy the moment.”


Dr. Ann Starlin-Horner

Ann Starlin-Horner grew up nine miles from the coast of Oregon and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and Masters of Arts degree in Special Education from the University of Oregon. She completed her formal education when she received her Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of Kansas.

Ann has worked in the educational arena in the states of Oregon, Minnesota, Kansas, Colorado, and Missouri. Currently, she is the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Leadership in the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District. She has been a teacher, principal and central office administrator, ranging from pre-school through post-secondary grade levels, both in regular and special needs education. She has presented at state, regional, and national conferences on such topics as Precision Teaching, Databased Decision Making, the Comer Model of School Development, and e-Walks.

In addition, Ann has served on the community-based boards of ReDiscover and Lee’s Summit Education Foundation. She also participated in the development city of Lee’s Summit strategic plan and currently serves on the R-7 district Citizen’s Advisory Committee.

Ann and her husband, Don Horner, a psychological in the area of developmental disabilities, have enjoyed being Lee’s Summit residents since 2000.
