Money Spent On Special Education

At the recent candidate forum Patti Buie stated that the Lee's Summit School District spends $3 on every special education student for every $1 they spend on regular education students.

I wanted to address that, but I didn't have my facts. Last year, when I ran for school board, they gave Micheal Mahoney some figures. It didn't add up. He did his math wrong on the first airing, but they corrected it on the second airing. Also, we are trying to get an audit of the district. It takes 5,000 signatures.

According to the district, there are 17,000 students enrolled. 1,900 are special needs students. Their budget is $200,000,000. They spend $15,000,000 on special needs. According to Texas Instruments, Their special needs students represent 11% of their enrollment. They spend 7.5% of their budget on special needs. And let's not forget that they get extra money from the federal government for children on IEPs.

I'll look into those facts.

I commented on your misrepresenting the facts and figures on the R-7 schools. You delete any thing that tells the truth. You are one issue nut that will be defeated in the April election. Most people feel that you are a crazy person with crazy ideas. You are play loose with the real truth and facts and figures. You do not even understand the difference between Million and
Billion. You must have had a very poor education. I notice you do not claim to be educated but want to run a school district. FAT CHANCE. I notice that your postings have 0 comments "I wonder why"?

I'm sorry. I just noticed this comment. Why anonymous? I am willing to use my name and stand behind what I say. What facts and figures have I misrepresented? I have never lied or given half truths. Much more than the district can say.

You want some comments. How about that I don't believe that LSR-7 spends 7.5% of their budget on special needs. I think it is much less. How about people off the street know how to treat sped kids better than staff in the buildings of the LSR-7 schools?! How about how sped kids clean up the cafeteria and courtyard once they get in high school? How about how LS punishes children for their disability by restraint and seclusion. They call the police on these children after the staff causes the meltdown by how they handled the child. They take communication devices away from children who can't talk.
