2012 Board of Education Election PATTI BUIE, RON BAKER AND PHYLLIS BALAGNA SWORN IN AT THE APRIL 12 BOARD MEETING. Two people — Mrs. Buie and Mr. Baker — filed for two seats on the Board of Education in winter 2011-2012, and no election was held for these positions during April. Ms. Balagna was appointed by the Board of Education to serve a one-year term following the February resignation of Annette Braam, who has moved out of the school district.

Patti Buie and Ron Baker were elected to the R-7 Board of Education during the April 7 election. Mrs. Buie received 2,594 votes, and Mr. Baker received 2,624 votes. Other candidates included Sherri Tucker, who received 1,061 votes, and Craig Belser, who received 596 votes.

·         2008 Board of Education Election VOTERS ELECT JEFF TINDLE, JACK WILEY AND JON PLAAS ON APRIL 8
Winners in the Board of Education race were Jeff Tindle with 6,925 votes, Jack Wiley with 6,557 votes and Jon Plaas with 5,065 votes. Sherri Tucker, who was also a candidate, received 4,679 votes.
·         The Lee’s Summit R-7 School District will accept Declarations of Candidacy for any person interested in running for a position on the School Board in the April 2, 2013 election.  Persons interested may file with the Secretary of the Board of Education at the school district’s offices located at 301 NE Tudor Road, Lee’s Summit,Missouri 64086.
·         Filing will begin on December 18, 2012 at 8 a.m. The office will close at 3 p.m. on December 21, 2012 for the holidays.  Filing will continue during the district’s regular business hours, January 2 through January 15, 2013, which are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Filing will not occur on days that the school district’s offices are closed due to inclement weather.  The district’s offices will be closed on December 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 31, and January 1 and, therefore, will not be accepting candidate filings on those dates. Filing will end on January 15, 2013, with the office staying open until 5 p.m. that day.
·         There are two positions available with three-year terms.

Candidates filing on the last day should arrive by 4 p.m. to make sure the filing process is completed by the 5 p.m. deadline.  The clock cannot be held.  Required documents must be checked and the declaration of candidacy, including signature, must be completed by 5 p.m.

Order of filing will determine the placement on the ballot

The Board has two seats open for (re)-election. Thus far two candidates have filed; Phyllis Balagna and Bob White. Candidate filing is open until January 15, 2013.

School Board Candidates

I am attempting to find information on the school board candidates.  It has been much easier in the past.  This year it has been more difficult.  Susan D. Coffman Susan Coffman has served as the Outreach Program Coordinator and Finance Officer for Lee’s Summit CARES since 2008. She has been a mayor-appointed representative to the Human Services Advisory Board, facilitated alcohol retailer trainings, organized the annual Holly Festival with the DARE program, managed bookkeeping and accounting, and served as the community liaison between LS CARES and local business, universities and the cities.  Coffman’s financial background includes work as a customer support specialist at Jack Henry & Associates Inc. for 11 years and assistant vice president and customer support specialist at Merchants Bank for 17 years.  Her community activities include serving on the Human Services Advisory Board, Paradise Park Advisory Board, Lee’s Summit Social Services Board, former treasurer of Rotary C
