Outrage After Special Education Students Forced To Sort Trash - Disability Scoop As television cameras rolled, Jurupa Valley, Calif. school officials publicly apologized earlier this week to parents of special education students and promised a thorough review of the functional skills program that had them dig through trash for recyclables to earn money. “I personally apologize to any students who may have been humiliated,” Jurupa Unified School District Superintendent Elliott Duchon said at an emotional school board meeting that saw outraged parents berate administrators for a program they said stigmatized their children. “Our teachers care very much about the students they teach.” School board members echoed Duchon’s words and added that they didn’t know the Patriot High School program included an activity that had special education students sort through campus trash bins. Here's what happened after the musical that we went to. It was a three hour musical and he spent most of the time with his ears covered. That's why I went. His teacher sent this: I just wanted to let you know that the para has really been trying to work with Jake this hour on his critique over the play. There are specific guidelines that he needs to include. He is being very uncooperative and just keeps eating paper. He keeps repeating that the play was boring, and his mom even thought so. I told the kids that they did not have to write positive things. They can certainly write negative things as long they back it up with specific support. It is frustrating because he is basically refusing to do the work. We are going to work a little more on this on Monday, and then it will be due on Tuesday. My school district will not allow the tape recording of meetings.  I feel as though they use that to their advantage.  If you are doing everything legal, what do you have to worry about?  It would protect both sides.  Below are examples of meeting notes and my notes.  I was recently told, " You also asked about your notes being added to our Conference Notes. Our Conference Notes are the school district's record of the meetings.
